Ferranti enhances internationalisation with new cloud services
Ferranti is working with Cisco, EMC and Microsoft for its new cloud services, with these organisations supplying the servers and switches, storage systems and virtualisation software respectively. Ferranti can now use these systems to offer hybrid IT services to customers who are increasingly entrusting the IT management of their computer applications to specialist providers. The hybrid offering includes MECOMS, which Ferranti is using to automate energy and utility companies.
International customers in MyFerrantiCloud
“We’re now also providing MECOMS to customers as software-as-a-service, so they can use it via the internet and be charged per connection. Our international customers wanted a flexible solution, and the quality certificate from Cisco provides them with extra security and peace of mind. The new British energy supplier Our Power Energy Supply is one of our customers now making use of MECOMS-as-a-service, with Ferranti taking care of the billing and customer management in their name,” says Gunter Van de Cauter, Sales Director ICT at Ferranti.
In Belgium, CultuurNet Vlaanderen has already moved its UiT database, which contains over 130,000 leisure activities in Flanders, to Ferranti’s cloud. The Dutch tourist organisation VVV has also moved its applications to MyFerrantiCloud, and in doing so has been able to save 10% on infrastructure costs.
Strict controls on customer support
The Master CMSP certification followed an intensive 2-day audit by an independent body. This audit looked at both the supplier’s infrastructure and its business processes for managing technology and providing support to customers.
Cisco imposes strict conditions on Master CMSP providers with regard to the design and management of their cloud infrastructure, and providers also need to offer customers professional, commercial and technical support, ensuring that Cisco helps end users with a fixed working method and best practices.
“With the Master CMSP certificate Ferranti has proven that it can recommend the best solution for all its customers’ applications in any scenario: at the customer’s site, in a private cloud at Ferranti, in a public cloud or even a combination of all three,” says Hugo Detremmerie, Head of Partner Organisation Belux and North at Cisco.
